01/20/2007 - Lubbock, TX (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The fifth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks bring an extended 10-game win streak into Lubbock this afternoon, as they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Big 12 action from United Spirit Arena.

Bill Self's Jayhawks are 16-2 on the season and haven't been defeated since a December 2nd setback at DePaul (64-57). The team has gone 3-0 in conference play thus far, staying perfect with Monday's 80-77 victory over Missouri.

Bob Knight's Red Raiders are just a game back in the league standings (2-1). That lone league loss came last weekend at Baylor (73-70). The loss brought an end to a brief three-game win streak for TTU.

The Jayhawks have won 16 of the 18 all-time meetings between these two team, including 6-of-8 matchups in Lubbock. Kansas won last season's meeting in Lawrence, 86-52.

It was freshman guard Sherron Collins who led the charge against the Tigers this week, as he erupted for 23 points off the bench, including seven of the last nine to close out the victory. Sophomore Brandon Rush was the only other Jayhawk to net double digits, finishing with 16 points. Fellow sophomore Julian Wright chipped in just six points in support, but did grab 10 rebounds and dole out five assists. Despite being so young, the Jayhawks have thrived at both ends of the court this season. The team is averaging a healthy 77.2 ppg, getting it done on .486 shooting. Defensively, there aren't many better teams in the Big 12, with KU limiting foes to a mere 59.2 ppg, on .371 shooting. In addition, Kansas is winning the battle on the boards (+6.9 margin) and forcing 17.7 turnovers per outing. Four players are currently averaging double figures, led by Rush's 13.7 ppg. Fellow guard Mario Chalmers is next with 11.9 ppg and is followed closely by Darrell Arthur (11.6 ppg) and Wright (11.1 ppg). The top player inside, Wright is shooting .550 from the floor and leads the team in rebounding (8.2 rpg).

The Red Raiders lost for the first time since Knight became the winningest coach in Division I history (882), as they fell by three points at Baylor last weekend. Jon Plefka came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Starting guards Jarrius Jackson and Martin Zeno followed with 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Red Raiders struggled on the boards, getting out-muscled on the glass 45-33. The team also shot just .406 from the floor and must do a better job this weekend against the Jayhawks. On the year, Texas Tech is netting 74.1 ppg, while allowing 66.6. The team boasts three players with double-figure averages, led by the explosive Jackson. The 6-1 junior is shooting a blistering .505 from behind the arc (46-of-91) and is pouring in a hefty 20.8 ppg. Zeno is a solid perimeter threat as well, delivering on just over 51 percent from the floor, resulting in 16.4 ppg. Charlie Burgess completes a potent three-guard set with 10.1 ppg.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year

Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.

Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.

With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.

Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.

Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
